Contemporary Staffing Solutions celebrates
Throwback Thursday!
Once a month we will feature a “first job” from one of our employees, clients, or contractors, posing questions often asked in job interviews. They will share many things like what they learned from their first job, how they feel it’s applicable to their job today, and something they learned from their first job they wish they knew then.
Alberta, a CSS Employee, shares her first job:
Where was your first job?
“My first job was a summer job at the seashore. I was a waitress in a coffee shop.I learned that attendance was most important, patience and to treat people the way you expect to be treated. All three were important at my very first job, and are still important at my present job.”
What was a “stand out” moment that was fun/interesting/memorable”?
“I was only 13 or 14, so as a teenager, I was thrilled that my mom let me use my pay to go shopping for clothes that were the fad at that time (unlike the little girl clothes she bought for me). I will always remember me and my sister running to the shops to buy things with every very minimal pay check we received. We thought having our own money was great.”
What do you know now, that you wish you knew then?
“I wanted to work immediately when I graduated high school, to continue to have my own money. I wish I would have chosen to further my education after high school instead. I have since gotten my Associate degree, because just a high school education today doesn’t get you the good paying jobs.”
What did you learn from your first job that you apply to your current job?
“From my first job to my last, I have learned that there is a huge diversity of people in this world, and you need to adapt to each type. Be patient, and try putting yourself in their place. I’ve always said, treat people as you would like to be treated. I strongly feel the same way today.”
What is your current job/title?
Alberta is currently retired, but still working various part time jobs with Contemporary Staffing Solutions prestigious clients.
