The Salesforce Health Cloud is making strides in driving stronger patient engagement, according to a recent company announcement. The company revealed new features that allow healthcare providers to access care plan templates that will apply predefined care protocols for patients; resulting in efficiencies that make the caregiver’s job more efficient while focusing more of their time on building relationships with patients.

How Health Cloud Can Improve Efficiencies

According to a blog post announcing updates to Health Cloud:

One of the great things about the Salesforce platform is that we update our products three times per year, so we offer Health Cloud customers great new features as emerging technologies like mobile, social and data science become popular in the market. This is unique among health IT vendors. We’re able to take customer feedback and quickly iterate for their changing needs. For example, since we launched Health Cloud back in February, we’ve added Salesforce Shield for additional compliance and security of patient data; localized the product in six different languages; and unveiled a two-way video solution that powers telehealth scenarios between patients and care teams. Care plan templates are the latest in this cadence of innovation.

The new features allow care teams, individual providers and even patients to use care plan templates that are designed to help achieve patient-specific goals. Physicians and care providers can cut down the time it takes to customize and coordinate care plans across a team. Now, with a few simple actions, the entire team has access to a care plan, and can see updates and changes in real-time.

Rather than entering unique protocols for each patient, healthcare providers can use the new feature to pull from a list of actions that are directly associated with care standards for specific patient populations (patients with diabetes, patients recovering from bypass surgery, etc.).  The ease of the process lets physicians, nurses and other members of the care team spend more time talking with patients and ensuring they receive quality care, and less time fussing with inputting data into the system.

How Do Health Cloud Templates Work?

The process works like this: physicians choose from pre-built templates based on the patient’s specific diagnosis. They customize those templates as needed, assign members of the team to specific aspects of the care plan, and then they communicate the next steps to their patients. Say, for example, a physician is working with a patient newly diagnosed with diabetes. They can use the template to schedule an appointment with nutritionist, set up prescriptions at the pharmacy and even create reminders for the patient to take her medication at the proper time, check her sugar levels and exercise a set number of minutes per week, all within a few clicks of a mouse of taps of a finger.

Salesforce hopes that physicians will take advantage of customized templates in Health Cloud to provide more personalized care in a healthcare system that feels increasingly impersonal. Technology like this can facilitate these advancements in patient care, but only if you have the right team in place to help your end users make the most of its features.
