What is an IT Project Manager?

The IT Project Manager is responsible for overseeing nearly all aspects of a technical project. This includes managing project requirements, planning, budgeting, submitting deliverables, and communicating project efforts to stakeholders.

The IT Project Manager focuses on the project as opposed to the team, communicating with both stakeholders and the delivery team to ensure the requirements are clear and the team has the resources needed to complete their project.

How to Become an IT Project Manager

While many IT Project Manager positions do not require a degree, many do require certification. The particular certification required of IT Project Managers is the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI). Other certifications that are beneficial to IT Project Managers are PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) and Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM), amongst others.
