What is Scrum?
To define Scrum, you first have to understand Agile. Agile is a type of methodology used to manage a project. Agile focuses on breaking a project into multiple stages and tackling those stages quickly and individually.
Scrum is a collaborative framework used to implement Agile methodology and it is typically used by software development teams. Scrum is all about teamwork, and organizations that use the Scrum framework will start their day off in a morning huddle to openly discuss how the project is going, much like a scrum in rugby (called a “ceremony” in Agile terms). The software development/Scrum team completes their project in short, manageable stages called sprints.
What is a Scrum Master?
The Scrum Master’s primary responsibility is to be the Scrum Team’s advocate and mentor to help the team succeed and accomplish their project. It is up to the Scrum Master to implement and adhere to the Agile methodology via the Scrum framework. The Scrum Master’s job is to be in their team’s corner, ensuring they know what they’re doing and managing the product owner’s/stakeholders’ expectations.
